It does however have an ample dust bin that doesn't require frequent emptying, and has a long battery life. In addition, it has an option that allows you to schedule cleaning sessions and return to the location where it last stopped, making it easier to clean larger homes. This model is also a great choice for pet owners because it can spot and eliminate hair tangled and fallen food particles.

In our tests, we found that the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra combined a LIDAR (light) sensor that can identify obstacles and map rooms by using a structured-light sensor to identify objects as well as detect edges. This robot is not as good at cleaning like our top models, however it is great in picking up larger items like orzo pasta, metal screws and fine debris such as sand. The only downside is that it can't mop and has a less efficient navigation system.

The best option for Carpet

If you have carpeting, choose a robot vacuum that scores high for carpet and rug maneuverability and pickup. Many models are good at picking up dust in low-pile carpets, and some are capable of picking up heavier debris, such as orzo pasta and metal screws. But they don't pick up small particles like an upright or canister vacuum, and they may not pick up dirt that is ground-in close to thresholds and baseboards.

The best choice for most carpeted homes is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop that allows you to swap between a cleaning bin and mopping pad with damp. It can also be set to only mop and we loved its impressive navigation on both bare floors and rugs and its ability to climb up and over furniture. The Combo i5 has a long runtime and excellent path-planning for the size of the device.

If you're looking for a more modern model, you can look at the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Self-Empty Robot Vacuum & Mop. It comes with a large dock that can last for weeks without having to be empty. It also features impressive navigation and auto-emptying capabilities on carpets and floors that are not cleaned. It also has a smart-mapping system and can be programmed to operate at certain times of the day (a handy feature for keeping children and pets who are prone to mischief from causing havoc). The Shark is less powerful than other mop/robot combinations however, it does pick hair and pet hair with a high degree of accuracy. It's also the highest price of our top picks.

Ideal for Hard Floors
